Event Title: Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
Event Description:
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy is a research-supported program that can help prevent recurrence of depression and improve anxiety, stress, and wellbeing. It offers various mindfulness practices aimed at reducing rumination and recognizing when we are slipping into old habits that perpetuate low moods, stress or anxiety. Group members can learn to shift their relationship to difficult thoughts and emotions, respond more skillfully, and avoid getting swept up into patterns of negative thinking. Scientific studies demonstrate that MBCT is as effective as antidepressant medicines in preventing recurrence of depression.
In this program, you will learn to:
-
Become more aware of thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, and how they interact to keep us stuck feeling depressed or anxious
-
Recognize triggers for low mood and disengage from negative spirals of thinking
-
Increase your ability to work with difficult emotions and experiences
-
Become more present in your life as it is unfolding, instead of being on “autopilot” lost in the past or worrying about the future
-
Increase self-kindness and acceptance
-
make your personalized plan to prevent recurrence of anxiety or depression
This course is designed for individuals who have had low mood or depression in the past or currently have mild to moderate anxiety or depression.
No prior experience with mindfulness or meditation is necessary.
