Drop-in Session: Mostly Qigong: De-Stress and Re-Energize Through Mindful Movement

Most of us are experiencing a deep mental, emotional, and physical fatigue during these very strange times. On top of our usual daily stress, there are new stressors to juggle: fear of the virus, the loneliness of physical distancing from family and loved ones, figuring out childcare and schoolwork, computer fatigue from working from home, and the relentless stress felt by our frontline workforce. Learning how to metabolize this stress is key to well-being. Mindful movement is one of the many tools to increase resilience and simply give ourselves a much needed break.

Qigong is an ancient physical art, a moving meditation that can be a powerful tool for self-healing. It is easy to learn and can be done anywhere – standing, sitting, or lying down. Qigong combines mental focus, breathing techniques, and body movements to promote balance and healing at the physical and emotional levels. It can be easily adapted and beneficial for people with limited mobility. This session is called “Mostly Qigong” because although we begin and end with qigong, we may add in additional mindfulness techniques. People from all experience levels are welcome.

Blair Carleton

Blair Carleton is a lifelong teacher. She is a Mindfulness Coach, Recovery Coach trained through the State of Washington and the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery, and an instructor of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), as well as the MSC curriculum for teens, Making Friends with Yourself: A Mindful Self-Compassion Program for Teens and Young Adults. Trained by the founders of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), Dr. Neff and Dr. Chris Germer, Blair received her MSC Teacher Certificate through University of California San Diego’s Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. Her focus is on helping adults, young adults and teens cope with difficult emotions and self-judgment by building strong emotional resources, skills, and capacities that increase self-love and acceptance in any situation.
