Focus Area: Cultivating Mindfulness & Compassion
Short Course in Mindful Self-Compassion
Mindful Self-Compassion or “MSC” is an empirically-supported program developed by Drs. Chris Germer and Kristin Neff. This 6-week version has been adapted as an intimate online offering. In this 6-week program, participants will meet once a week for 1.5 hours and will learn MSC skills through activities such as meditation, experiential exercises, short presentations, group discussion, and home practices. No experience with mindfulness or meditation is required.
The Roots of Helping, Sharing, and Caring
How do human beings become caring beings? This presentation offers answers from research with young children, whose sensitivity to other people’s feelings increasingly drives their helpful assistance even as their understanding of ingroup-outgroup discrimination is growing. We also consider the social experiences that influence the tension between social exclusion and shared understanding in early childhood.
Tools for Teens: Stress Management and Emotional Resilience
Based on the evidenced-based curriculum of Mindful Self Compassion for adolescents, the Mindful Schools curriculum, and principles of positive psychology; this 8-week experiential program for teens provides practices and tools to manage stress, increase feelings of happiness and well-being, and promote emotional resilience. In each weekly session, we will discuss concepts related to well-being and do a variety of practices, including mindfulness practices, intentional movement, and creative projects.
